Lab-on-Chip (LOC) technologies can strongly impact on food, agriculture and environmental monitoring by providing micro-total analysis systems (µTAS) for on-field analysis/detection of environmental threats, bio-warfare agents, toxins and allergens from food, industrial and agriculture products.
For environmental applications, we optimized:
- EIS sensors for detection of environmental toxins, such as cholera toxin contamination in water down to picomolar concentration [M. S. Chiriacò et al., Lab on a Chip 2011, 11, 658-663, http://dx.doi.org/10.1039/c0lc00409j].
- EIS sensors for rapid assay of phytopatogens such as Xylella fastidiosa subsp. pauca strain CoDiRO [ M. S. Chiriacò et al., Sci Rep 2018, Vol. 8, p., issn. 2045-2322, http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/s41598-018-25747-4].
- EIS and SAW sensors for detection of nanoparticulate and VOC [ M. S. Chiriacò et al., Microelectron. Eng. 2018, Vol. 202, p. 31-36, issn. 0167-9317, http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.mee.2018.10.008].
Such miniaturized sensors can be integrated in distributed monitoring stations as well as in unmanned vehicles for on-site sampling and analysis.
