Antonio Turco (1985) received the degree in Biotechnology Science at the University of Salento in 2009 (magna cum laudae), and the PhD in chemical and pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies at the Center of excellence for nanostructured materials, University of Trieste with a thesis titled “Use of carbon nanotubes for novel approaches towards spinal network repairing”. In 2013 he was a post-doc researcher for National Interuniversity Consortium of Materials Science and Technology (INSTM) and in the same year he was back in Lecce as a post-doc researcher in analytical chemistry laboratory of university of Salento. In 2015 he obtained a position as fixed term researcher in the same university. From 2019 A.T. is a researcher at CNR-Nanotec institute in Lecce. His scientific activities ranged from the development of electrochemical sensors to the fabrication of molecularly imprinted polymers and their supramolecular deposition on nanostructured carbon-based nanomaterials for their use as recognition element in sensors. He developed also innovative (nano)composites materials for advanced applications in tissue engineering, environmental remediation and waste treatment. More recently he worked on the development of innovative techniques based on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to study the biological fate of metal nanoparticles and on the organic functionalization of Lab-on-Chip technologies with electropolymerized polymers for the development of miniaturized sensors.
During his career A.T. was principal investigator and coordinator of two Scientific projects (“FutureInResearch No.9EC1495-Ultrasensitive sensors for food analysis” and “FondazionePuglia_Bando Ricercatori 2015-Innovative prous nanocomposites for the removal and recovery of phenolic compounds from olive mill wastewater”). A.T. has also an active participation in an ERC project (CARBONANOBRIDGE No.227135). A.T. is co-author of 22 publications on international peer-reviewed journals with medium-high impact factor (Average impact factor: 8) several contributions at national and international conferences, a book chapter and a cover on ACS chemical neuroscience (h-index:14; citations> 1000; August 2019). In 2018 A.T. obtained the National Scientific qualification as Associate professor in Analytical chemistry (ssd 03/A1) and Chemical fundamentals of technologies (ssd 03/B2).
